AFC Oldham Spread Joy at Children’s Ward Visit

A Heart-warming Community Tradition!

In the spirit of the holiday season, we continued our tradition of spreading joy and cheer at the Royal Oldham Hospital’s Children’s Ward. This marked our fifth consecutive year, where players and committee members dedicated their time to brighten the festive period for the young patients undergoing treatment.
The annual visit saw the Football Club donating presents and chocolates to the children, aiming to bring smiles and warmth to their hospital stay. This act of kindness embodies the essence of community engagement and the vital role sports clubs play beyond the field.
Behind this heart-warming initiative was the unwavering dedication of Men’s Teams Secretary, Gemma O’Connor, who worked tirelessly to organise gifts for the children. Her commitment and passion for making a difference in the community exemplify the ethos of this special club and our emphasis on giving back.
Several members of the Club’s committee joined in on the visit to the ward, where they had the chance to meet the hardworking nurses. These healthcare heroes dedicate themselves to ensuring that even during the festive season, the children in the hospital experience a special and comforting Christmas.
Chairman Ross Elliott, reflecting on the annual visit, shared his sentiments, saying, “We started the Children’s Ward visits five years ago, and it is one of my favourite things we do as a Club.”
Ross highlighted the significance of these community engagements, emphasising that while match results and football games are undoubtedly important, the off-the-field efforts are what truly define the Club’s essence.
The event encapsulated the club’s dedication to supporting its community, showcasing that we value compassion, empathy, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact beyond the football pitch.
These initiatives go beyond wins and losses, forging a deeper connection between the club and the local community, enriching lives and spreading joy during the holiday season.
We will continue to set an example of community involvement, and we hope our commitment serves as an inspiration for other sports clubs to recognise the importance of giving back and being an active part of their local communities, despite how big or small you are!
Through acts of kindness and solidarity, they prove that the true essence of a club lies in its ability to make a positive difference where it matters most.
