Women’s Second Team Exit Cup on Penalties

On Sunday the Women’s Second Team faced Bury Reserves in the Semi-Final of the Division Three League Cup, unfortunately it ended in a penalty defeat following a 2-2 draw.

Things started well for AFC Oldham when Megan Barlow gave the home side the lead, but Bury were level not long after, making it all square at half time.

The second half was frenzied with both sides chasing a winner, it looked like AFCO had booked their place in the Final after Danielle Pickett hit a long distance shot off the post and into the back of the net.

In the final minutes of the match, though, Bury were level after a scramble from a corner, with not enough time for either team to find a winner, the game went to penalties.

While Bury came out victorious, Oldham can take a lot from the game and season on the whole, in only their first season since its formation.

There are two games left for the Second Team this season, but plans are already under away for the 2022/23 campaign.

Both Women’s sides train on Wednesdays at Hathershaw College (OL8 3EP) at 8pm on the 3G for one hour, if anyone is interested in getting involved, please do contact us for more details.
