After a summer of change it is back to familiar surroundings for AFC Oldham this weekend, as they take on newly promoted Newton.

A change to the management structure and new recruits has lead to a different feel within the First Team this year, Saturday sees their first real test, though.

Ross Elliott has been joined by former Second Team Manager, Andy Steel, they will now work together has Joint Managers.

With new players strengthening the squad the First Team go into this weekend’s match with a whole lot of confidence after a 100% record in Pre-Season.

That form won’t be easy to carry on, though, as they face Newton fresh off the back of their Division Two title winning season.

Before the game Steel spoke to the official website:

It won’t be easy, they will be confident of coming here and catching us out, we have to make sure our guard is up and we’re focused.

It’s been a fun pre-season, to win every game is, obviously, a plus point but it will count for nothing if we go out on Saturday and drop our standards.

I’ve enjoyed working with Ross (Elliott) and the First Team lads, I knew most of them from managing the Seconds for two years so there hasn’t really needed to be a settling in period, it feels like a natural transition.”

The game was originally scheduled to be an away game for Oldham, but due Newton’s pitch being unplayable, it will, instead, be held at the Tameside Stadium on the 3G pitch.
