AFC Oldham Second Team 2-3 Hargreaves (Bury)
Saturday 12th May
Lancashire Cheshire AFL Division A
It was a day to forget to end a season to forget for the Second Team, a late goal giving the ‘visitors’ the three points.
Hopwood were unable to host the match, so the game was moved to Hargreaves’ home and they made sure they took advantage by claiming the win.
In a hard fought game, AFC dominated possession but were unable to make the chances count, in the end it was the prolificacy in front of goal that would cost them.
It looked bright when Sean Salford linked up with Gabriel Wiwolokv to give Oldham the lead, the latter tapping in the rebound after his initial shot was saved.
Sloppy defending lead to Hargreaves grabbing two goals before half-time and leaving AFC with it all to do at the mid-way point, the ‘home’ side, though, got to work and won a penalty as the clock ticked down.
Up-stepped Kelvin Stevenson, he struck his penalty well and Oldham were level, but as they attacked for the win they were hit on the break.
A tame shot finding its way into the back of the net, a 3-2 win for Hargreaves didn’t change either sides’ seasons with both teams finishing in the bottom three.
Oldham’s final position is tenth out of 11, two places above last year, have scored more goals, conceded less but gaining the same number of points.
